Trick or Treat!

Halloween started out with a bang with our first stop at our neighbors Gordy and Peggy. After they opened the door, Samantha announced, "we are here to take your candy!"

Is this not the cutest puppy you've ever seen? Look at that tail!

Our trick-or-treaters, Abby Cadabby (Sesame Street Fairy) and our little puppy dog.

Frosting Friday!

Earlier this week Amanda emailed me to say she was thinking about making cupcakes and having the kids decorate them on pizza night. As with anything when our broods get together, I said "it sounds like a recipe for disaster; we are IN!" I snagged these photos from Amanda's full recap here.

Someone really enjoyed their frosting!

Opportunity Knocks!

It was a long time ago that we first started thinking about moving to North Carolina. A colleague of Chris's was working this great position down there, and Chris couldn't wait to get on board because he's done a lot of work with this colleague. We are friends with his family, and they've always been really good to us. So, we waited and waited for the opportunity to come for Chris to be brought on board with the project, but the opportunity never came. Chris continued to travel other gigs and we continued to live here in CT with Chris' parents. 2 months ago when Chris's gig in Providence came to a close we decided that we needed to make a plan and make it now. We obviously couldn't live here forever, and the nature of the job allowed for us to live anywhere and Chris to keep working. So, we decided to take the plunge and move to NC even without the job offer that Chris was waiting for. He went ahead and took at 7 month contract in SC, and we figured we could always come back north if we really didn't like NC and if I felt like it was just not going to work out being there while Chris traveled. The time was now or never.
Last night Chris came home at midnight from a week away in SC. The first thing he said to me was "I need to talk to you...I got the job in NC!" He was holding this info all week so that he could tell me in person! HE GOT THE JOB IN NC!! He gave his 2 week notice to SC today, and luckily they were surprisingly cool about it and he gets to go back and finish up 2 weeks there and then start in NC on November 15th. Chris will be working for UNC-Chapel Hill. This is initially a 6 month consulting contract that has potential to go longer or even turn into full-time employment! This is truly an answer to a lot of people's prayers, and even though I had been excited about the move before, I am ecstatic now! Now we will all be able to move down together and actually stay there. We can all make our way in a new place together instead of me and the kids having to feel our own way around during the weeks. It makes me feel very confident and secure in our decision and I couldn't be happier! WE couldn't be happier!

All Signs Point South!

If all goes according to plan, we will be moving in 2 months! 8 weeks! 60 days! We just might be crazy! This week we rented a U-haul trailer and sent in an application for Samantha to a local preschool. These are the things we must think about! Chris is heading up the moving logistics, while I am trying to do things to help us get acclimated to a new home once we get there. I am already signed up for a local moms club and am getting tons of information from their online forums. We were planning on sending Samantha to preschool next fall after she turns 3, but I started researching some 2's programs, and I think we are going to try to get her enrolled in a program for January. I think this will help her to get involved in a routine more quickly and to make some friends in the area. Not to mention that it would give me 2 half days a week to only care for 1 child instead of 2. Next on my list is locating some babysitters! Chris and I are going to head south for a weekend in December to look at some rental homes and tour some preschools. Hopefully at that time we'll have a more definitive plan!

Just Like My Auntie!

After posting the picture below of Chris looking like Jake, we received an email from Aunt Sessa saying,

"yet another person mistakes me for a boy..."

Both Kara and Melissa weighed in saying "100% Melissa"

My retort, "but your mom even said it was Chris!"

Well, after taking a second look at the photo, and more specifically, the back where the date was printed, we realized that yes indeed, that cutie in blue who was looking just like Jake is indeed Melissa. Either that or Chris is a really young looking 8 year old!

So, for the time being, forget Dad! Look how much little Jake looks like his Auntie!

Just Like My Daddy!

Samantha and I were looking through a photo album of Chris and his sisters when they were little and came across this photo:When asked who this was, Samantha replied, "that's Jake!"

Pumpkin Carving

I was in need of a fun activity to keep the kids occupied for some time this afternoon so we headed out to Target to pick up our pumpkin carving kit. We started the carving festivities early this year by carving one of Gampa's pumpkins that he brought us the other week. First of all I just have to say that those little carving kits are junk! Now, on to the carving fun!

Samantha had fun scooping out the seeds and pumpkin insides.

After seeing Samantha,
Jake had to stand up on the chair to scoop out insides too!

Making sure the lid fits

Jake was ready for bed and not wanting to pose with the pumpkin!

Our final product!

Growth Spurt

Samantha went for her 2.5 year check-up today and we got confirmation that she did indeed go through a growth spurt in the past 6 months! All of her pants were getting short, she was actually fitting into 2t, and some 3t clothes! When I would pick Samantha up I thought how she is getting heavy. Between her 18 month month and 2 year check up she might have gained 1 pound. She had dropped from the 36th percentile in weight at 18 months to the 20th percentile at 2 years. Today we learned that in the past 6 months she gained a whopping 4 whole pounds and grew 3 inches! Here are all of her stats!

Weight: 28 pounds (42nd percentile)
Height: 3 feet! (57th percentile)

Our little girl is growing! Everything checked out fine. Samantha asked me on the way to the doctor if she was going to get a shot. I let her know that I did not know. So, when we got there I asked the nurse if she was going to get any shots. She said that she wasn't, so Samantha was happy. She was happy until the nurse came back a minute later to tell us that oops, there would actually be 1 shot. I think the anticipation of said shot was worse than the actual shot.
When Samantha got up from nap today she was crying and crying, so I brought her downstairs so that she wouldn't wake up Jake. She started saying how her shot hurt. She kept whining about it, so I gave her a dose of Motrin, thinking that is was possible that her leg really did hurt or that she was having some ill effects from the shot. She continued to complain so I asked if she wanted to put some ice on her leg. She said yes, so I got her some ice. She proceeded to put the ice on her knee (she had gotten the shot in her upper thigh. I think she might have been faking. At least she did put the ice on the correct leg!

What do you think about this new version of Adriana Lima? I personally think she looks much better with her natural brunette locks.

Kim Kardashian Hairstyles

When it comes to sensationally stylish hairstyles, Kim Kardashian is an absolute trend setter, who has donned more fabulous hairstyles than just about any other starlet in show business. Checkout this style rundown below.

Sweet, innocent and approachable is what this little number is screaming, the long curls and dashing bangs are reminiscent of a lovely southern bell, ready for the big prom.

This is a cute little number that Kim likes to sport from time to time, its a small braided crown accompanied by long causal flowing hair, without too much extra styling.

Here we see a very sleek and sexy ponytail style, nicely slicked back and pulled over her left shoulder, like shes ready to hit the gym or perhaps enter the octagon for some one on one action. Perfect for physical activity.

Ah yes, a stroll down memory lane as we see Ms. Kardashian shocking the world and her fans with a full on blonde hairstyle, with a pleasant combination of both light and dark tones. We loved it, however Kim truly looks best with her natural black locks.

We see this hairstyle quite frequently from the stunning starlet and its really working wonders for her, with a very sharp and edgy looking style, plus that dazzling brush of bangs really fits Kim K. like a glove. Work it girlfriend!

Speaking of dazzling, checkout this magnificent updo hairstyle with a beautiful 'not too big' bun on top, which is perfect for the prom season, or perhaps award show materiel as well.

And last but certainly not least, we see Kim Kardashian channeling Snooki from the Jersey Shore, with this sky high poof hairstyle with a long double wide ponytail and cute blonde highlights. Looks like Kim beat Snooker at her own game... Ouch!

Family Weekend

Over the weekend my mom and dad came to visit. It's always an exciting time for the kids when all 4 grandparents are in the house at once. Samantha hardly knows what to do with all of the attention. She is truly in her glory! Samantha has always been calling my mom and dad Gamma and Gampa and Chris's mom and dad Mammo and Papi. Just this past week it seemed to click with her that Mammo is also her grandma and Papi is her grandpa. All week long she's been talking about how she has 2 grandmas and 2 grandpas. After a week of rain, we were excited to see the sun shining and we headed to Jones' Tree Farm for some fun at Pumpkinseed Hill. Grandpa Studebaker brought us a lot of pumpkins from his patch, so we didn't actually need to get any pumpkins; we enjoyed looking at all the pumpkins, riding on the hayride, and eating cookies and cider.

Two cute ones from earlier in the week of the siblings; feel the love!

As we were driving from music class to home, this conversation occurred in the car. It made me laugh.

Samantha: I want to drive on Chapel Street
Me: You are in luck because we are on Chapel Street!
(after turning onto the next road)
Samantha: Now we are on Main Street!
Me: You are right; we are on Main Street!
Samantha: I am so smart!

To quote Seth and Amy, "REALLY??"

Singing Songs

This is a song that Samantha and Jacob sing in their music class, and we've been singing it at home using people that we know! I find that Samantha is often singing tidbits of songs that we sing in class.

Kelly Brook Hairstyles

Here we have the sensationally curvaceous British model and actress, Kelly Brook, donning a dazzling array of top notch hairstyles while looking ever so elegant for the eye of the camera. Enjoy the style breakdown below.

This stunning formal hairstyle with great stylized waves and frosted tips is sure to turn heads at any special event or ceremony, perfect for proms and school dances or perhaps a red carpet event like we see here with Ms. Brooks.

This long brunette hairstyle with soft flowing curls is much more casual than the previous, however its just a stunning, not to mention easier to achieve. Simplicity is bliss!

Here we see Kelly Brook rocking a sexy/classy updo hairstyle, which is tightly pulled into a masterpiece of a bun which rests nicely on the middle back of her head. Lots of work, however it payed off nicely!

We absolutely adorable this fun loving long casual hairstyle with plenty of blonde highlights, plus a nice little hair clip which acts as a small crown. A style like this is absolutely perfect for hanging out at the beach or any other fun in the sun activity.

TOM TOM Tuesday, Oct. 12th!

Can't tell you how excited we are for this night! Performances from some of our absolute favorites, Lavender Mirror (New Moon Poncho comes alive!), Secret Century (new project from Mama Fleshtone), and Elizabeth Venable with Tara Jane O'neil. This will be a celebration of Tom Tom Magazine issue 4 as well as a benefit to keep the publication churning out the goods (sliding scale at the door. 100% will go to Tom Tom Magazine).

Making it Through

We are almost through this long week! When Chris is traveling I always get through the week by counting down certain things like number of nights we have to spend without him. This time 5 nights seemed long, so to give myself something that I could count down a little more quickly I counted down 1/2 days that I had to get through. He left on Sunday at nap time and doesn't come home until tomorrow night, so I had to get through 11 half days. 9 down, 2 more to go. It's amazing what adding on an additional day and a half can do. But, we are managing and getting back into our regular routine of when Chris travels. A good friend of mine recently wrote this blog post about really enjoying spending time at home and being nervous about getting overly involved in kids activities and school at the expense of less time to be at home. After reading her post I realized that I am the exact opposite of her. Now, don't get me wrong...I love to be at home as much as the next person, but when Chris is traveling, I have us booked for some activity or another every half day! We have a morning activity and an afternoon activity. Some days it might just be going to the gym or the park, but it is still something to get us out of the house! Just the other day Chris's mom came home from work as we were heading out of the house. She asked where we were going and I said that I was going to find my sanity, that we had to get out of the house! I do find that I have to make a conscious effort to slow down and sit down and just breathe sometimes. This is especially true when Chris is traveling because I am juggling a million balls in the air all by myself. It's exhausting just trying to get basic needs met for 3 people. You have spend a better part of the morning just getting out of bed, changing diapers, getting dressed, eating breakfast and then it's time to do it all again for lunch! It's like one long checklist of things to do. But enough about me. This is how Samantha is coping with Chris being gone; packing her "suitcase" to go visit daddy!

Keira Knightley Hairstyles

Ah yes, the breathtakingly beautiful English actress, Keira Knightley, known for donning a dazzling array of stunning hairstyles of both the long and short variety. Enjoy the collection listed below!

Here we see a lovely long flowing dark brown hairstyle with hints of lighter golden brown on the tips. A casually formal style with excellent side swept bangs.

This partial updo with long bangs and a touch of loose and stringy, looks quite dazzling on the beautiful starlet, however its not our favorite hairdo in her arsenal.

This is a really cute ponytail based hairstyle with very minimal bangs and a darling combination of light sandy brown with a touch of blonde highlights. Very snazzy red carpet idea.

And here we see Ms. Knightley donning a a very edgy hairstyle with sharp bangs and ultra sleek dark auburn hair color. This would be a great look if she was cast as a ninja assassin. :-)

And finally we see that sensationally short pixie hairstyle that fits Keira perfectly, a design which has a delightful scattered look with amazing bangs, and the color mixture is superb!
