The Neighborhood

So far we are loving our neighborhood. We have a 2 block walk to a nice park, there is a neighborhood pool for when it is a bit warmer, and there is even an elementary school in the neighborhood's complex! The other day the kids and I were walking home from the park and stopped at the end of our driveway to get the mail when our neighbor across the street (Anita) ran out to say hello. Come to find out she and her family just moved 10 days ago and she has a 3 year old and a 16 month old, both girls! How perfect! She has already called us about having a play date! While we were outside talking to Anita, 3 other neighbors came outside to say hello to the new neighbors! A neighbor two doors down from us has triplet girls who appeared to be about 7 or 8 years old. Samantha was very excited to learn that one of the girls is named Avery! So far everyone has been really friendly and we can't wait to meet more of the kids in the neighborhood!
Earlier this week we ventured to the nearest branch of the library which was HUGE and it wasn't even the main library. They have story hours, but they aren't starting up again until next week, so we'll get ourselves to the library again. All of the books appear close to brand new and there are atleast 5 copies of every book. It was so easy to locate books. When it was time to check out our books, we were able to self-check our books. Samantha and Jake thought this was super fun and have been incorporating this process into their play at home. Jake is especially funny to watch take his book up to the window sill in the living room, then he said "beep!" then puts the book in a pile and moves to the next book!
We haven't done anything with the moms group in the area at this point, but I've been in touch with one of the moms about getting together at a local park. I also started emailing a mom who was moving down to NC on the same day as us and she and her husband and daughter were moving from Boston! We are hoping to get together with them in the near future as well after we've all dug ourselves out from under the mountain of boxes we have!
We are slowly but surely getting accustomed to our new home! More updates to come!
